Greetings all,

“Mid- Century Modern” every time I utter that phrase I have to refrain from hitting myself quite hard. Its one of those phrases that can make you seem a little bit up your own XXX and designereeeee.Recently though I have  been appreciating some of the fantastic new pieces furniture designed to capture this style and feeling the need to mix them in with some more vintage and eclectic pieces.

Mid- Centry Modern furniture has a lovely simplicity in style about it, making it perfect to mix in a room without it being overbearing. Note to you all though dot go mad, if you have too much of it all in one room you it will look like the set of the original ‘Bewitched’ or a museum.

Wikipedia describes Mid-century modern as  an architectural, interior, product and graphic design that generally describes mid-20th century developments in modern design, architecture and urban development from roughly 1933 to 1965.??!!

At home I have used an old Ercol dinning table as my desk and mixed it with some more vintage pieces to create the look that I wanted.

Here are a few other rooms that I think have achieved that a great look  by combining  mid- century pieces with more modern finds, they have a completely timeless and original look, hopefully you will get an idea of what I mean and how fantastic it can look.

If you want to try to re-create a look like this in your pad it would be a good idea to search Gumtree or e-bay for original pieces but there are also some amazing new bits of furniture on the high street. A few ideas….

A few ideas for you all, look closely in your attics I bet you have a few pieces hiding in there and don’t be afraid to incorporate them into your home. As shown here with some careful styling they can add an original elegance, good luck and send pictures of any finds in Granny’ s attic!

When we got married in 2007 we managed to persuade my In-Laws to ‘upgrade’ their 3 piece suite and let us have the old one with the cushions recovered as a wedding present. They are now pleased with their ‘new’ 80’s Laura Ashley style sofa, and we are happily ensconced on their original Ercol style sofa and chairs. Everyone a winner!
